Turism

Several archeological remains provide clear evidence of man’s presence in the territory of Orroli dating back to the New Stone Age (about 3500 years B.C.).
A significant number of “
Domus de Janas”, a type of neolithic necropolis, and about forty “nuraghi” throughout the Orroli territory give a clear indication of the presence of ancient tribes of uncertain origin, who often had to undertake forced migrations. The first homes of these neolithic dwellers were certainly the natural caves of “Sa Corona Arrubia”, in Su.Motti” park, where numerous “Tombe” and “Domus de Janas” bear witness to the after-life worship of these primitive peoples.
During the late New Stone Age (1500-238 B.C.) the Nuraghe civilization developed considerably in our territory. The existence of the San Nicola Nuraghe in the town centre shows that Man has lived and worked here uninterruptedly of thousands of years.
As further evidence of the importance of this period you can see the nuraghi and
Sacred.Well.of.Su.Putzu (Sardinian=well). They are all well-preserved and curretly being excavated, in particular the five-towered “ Nuraghe Arrubiu ”, wich is undoubtedly the most majestic and imposing nuraghic fortress in all the Mediterranean.

Nuraghe Arrubiu

Nuraghe Arrubiu, one of the most important evidences of the Sardinian prehistoric period, is the only example of a pentalombate nuraghe, originally surmounted by a 30-metre-tall tower.
